Malaysia 23rd in World Competitiveness Index

via IMD:

The IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2007 (WCY) analyses and ranks the ability of nations to create and maintain an environment that sustains the competitiveness of enterprises. Considered the worldwide reference point to world competitiveness, it has been published without interruption since 1989 and ranks 55 national economies using 323 crieria. The WCY is an indispensable tool for business leaders, government and academia.

Well, we were 22nd last year, dropped a rank but it still seems pretty healthy though, even beating Japan!

But if you wanna make it sound not so rosy, our neighbours down south is 2nd!

Just 19.9 Minutes…6th Quickest!

via NST:

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians spend an average of 19.9 minutes when they make love.
Hardly the stuff romance novels are made of, they ranked sixth quickest in the world in terms of time spent in a love-making session.

However, if it’s any consolation, the average time spent is above the global average of 18.3 minutes.

India’s lovers were the world’s quickest, spending only 13.2 minutes per session.

Nigeria once again topped the ranking on a leisurely 23 minutes.
Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and Australia were all well below the world average time.

haha…at least we beat 2 of our neighbours =)

Condom-MANIA!

via theStar:

Flat dweller hanging condoms out to dry irks neighbours

HANGING laundry out to dry from a flat window may be acceptable, but condoms?

A Singaporean high-rise dweller is said to have resorted to recycling used condoms by “air-drying” them from the window of his flat, according to a report in China Press.

More than 100 used condoms were put out to dry, according to a disgusted neighbour.

“This is sickening. You can see from afar that some of the condoms had turned brownish,” she said, adding that the unit belonged to a middle-aged man living with his wife and two children.

“Rain water will be dripping from the condoms onto pedestrians walking on the ground below,” she pointed out.

Salary Increases Set to Stabilize in Asia Pacific

via PRnewswire:

SHANGHAI, China, Dec. 4 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ — Asia’s markets have maintained steady growth in the last year, which has led to a stabilization of salary increases in most markets during 2006. Though employers are reporting pay increases, the hikes are modest in comparison to previous years, and this trend looks set to continue in 2007, according to the 7th annual Asia-Pacific Salary Increase Survey conducted by Hewitt Associates, a global human resources services company.

This year, India once again reported the highest average salary increase at 13.8%, compared with 14.1% in 2005. For the second year in a row, The Philippines recorded an average overall salary increase of 8.2%, while salaries in China rose by 8%, down from 8.3% last year. As
Singapore’s economy continued to strengthen, employees experienced average salary increases of 4.6%, up from 3.9% in 2005 and demonstrating one of the largest year-on-year hikes. Meanwhile, Thailand and Malaysia saw raises of 6.5% and 6.2% respectively, marking an increase from 6.3% and 5.6% in 2005. Salaries also rose in Australia, Korea and Hong Kong.

Still pretty low for Malaysia, compared to our neighbours! But I think some of us got zero increase instead…lol
