I urge all non-Malay students to take the respective native languages as a subject and sit for its examination, be it in PMR or SPM. If we do not speak and preserve our own native languages, who should we hope for doing so?

Analysis of UPSR Results

This year, the Malaysian Ministry of Education released the overall analysis of Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results. The Star Online wrote:

A total of 496,439 pupils sat for the UPSR examination this year at 8,030 centres nationwide from Sept 4 to 6.

Compared to last year’s results, this year saw a slight decrease in the percentage of candidates who achieved the minimum grade requirement in 10 out of 12 subjects.

Although the overall quantity of candidates who achieved grades A, B and C in all subjects dropped, the number of straight A pupils increased to 42,029, up 1.2% from last year.

This trend was best reflected in Bahasa Melayu SJK (writing), which had the largest decrease of 5.7% in the number of candidates who achieved the minimal requirement, but also the largest increase of 13.8% in the number of grade A scorers.
