THE CHINESE, THEIR HOUSES HAVE NO WINDOWS

via The Evil Mischievious Kitten:

I looked out the window.
And I saw

Thousands and thousands of Malays in the Bersih Rally. They were fighting their own kind for a cause they believed in. And they risk being ostracized by their Muslim brothers. And they risk much.

I looked out the window.
And I saw

Thousands and thousands of Indians holding the picture of Gandhi in the streets. All were teargassed and many beaten with batons. At Batu Caves, they were locked in, pumped with tear gas and sprayed with chemical water. 80 are awaiting trial. 31 are charged for attempted murder of a policeman that attacked them. All their leaders are under ISA. The one that got away fled the country.

I looked out the window.
And I saw

Thousands and thousands of Chinese closing their doors. Minding their own business. Watching the soap operas. Playing mahjong. Going to the gym. Planning for holidays. Eating bah kuet teh. Enrolling their children in private schools. Going for line dancing. Changing to a bigger car. Perming their hair brown. Going to the movies. Shopping.

The Chinese. They don’t look out the window.
Their houses.
Have no windows.

The Semi-Value Story

I’ve been living Ipoh for all my youth - 23 years already and still counting. I still know the tales of the Toupee man from Sungai Siput - Samy Vellu. Incidentally, when I read a bit of Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange, I came to understand that the story was based on the his own experience of his wife being a rape victim in Sungai Siput as well! Coincidence.

The newspaper man who would always come to our house to collect the monthly bill always shows his disdain of this guy. Not on the job thing but the fact that he remains the only big race leader to yet hand over the leadership to the younger generation. People have praised Ling Liong Sik, Lim Keng Yaik and even Mahathir for handing the mantle of leadership over to the younger leaders.

But not him.

My 85-year old man too had a disdain of him. Every moment when he sees Samy in the papers he kept saying to me…”That bloody bastard!” That phrase keeps ringing in my head whenever I see a paper article even from the mainstream media that features our guy

Collapse of Law and Order - Forum Report

Of course, the show got kicked off with the showing of the 8-minute footage of the Lingamtape. Some called V.K Lingam as Shockalingam - a nod to a guy killed in Anniyan which everyone was laughing. Sure, the real laughing point is indeed “correct…correct…correct!”

But when I went through the whole thing, I came to realize that I can’t seem to trust the judiciary anymore. If I am to challenge a big government over compensation of damages, I would immediately end up one the losing side because of the intimidation and the partisan decision of judges. Some are pressured by the mob to go with them or face punishment. Which reminds me of what Tony told me of a Shearn Delamore lawyer representing MAS did in the lawsuit against Audra.

Of Being Polite and Courteous in Malaysia

Miss Belle wrote:

Richard could not remember.

All he knows is that he had been conned. He offered the 2 foreigners a lift to their enquired destination. He was trying to be a polite, friendly and courteous Malaysian as summoned by all the mass media of the nation. Apparently, the 2 foreigners put a spell on Richard. Richard couldn’t recollect on what happened after he invited them onboard.

Richard was ordered to drive home, take all his fixed deposit bank statement, drive to the bank and cash out all his life savings. And that life savings is joint account with Sarah. So all that was their family’s saving. Next, he drove them to the bus station to drop them and he went home. When he got home, he was still unaware of his wrongdoings. He came conscious after a few moments with only splitting images of what had happened.

With such thing happening in Malaysia, how can we be expected to be polite and courteous? After all, the chances of getting conned like this is much higher than meeting a genuinely “lost” tourist, isn’t it? Would you or would you not take the risk and continue being polite?

Married But Available (MBA)…

Sunflora wrote:

One of the current hot topics is about the possible existence of a certain “album” containing pictures of women who are interested in looking for a spouse. That bit wasn’t that interesting. Rumour has it that THE album was shown and seen by certain MBAs. No not those with the Masters in Business, rather the Married but Available variety of men.

Rumour has it, some women have banned their husbands from going to the house where THE ALBUM is kept.

I for one, am tempted to approach the owner of the album myself, to ask to view it. Not that I am interested in looking for a wife, no. But rather to see if the album really exist or if it is merely an urban legend.

…this has to be the most interesting blog in the Malaysian blogosphere so far!
