ICT Not the Cure-All for Dilapidated State of Education

Is ICT is the solution to everything eh? The silver bullet? Install ICT and we will get a blossoming economy beyond our wildest imaginations. Get real. Or so the Star reports that there should be a review of non-ICT promoting curriculum.

“Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called for a review of the school curriculum if it does not serve the purpose of promoting Information Communication Technology (ICT) usage in schools.

He said the curriculum should reflect the desire to produce thinkers and incorporate the use of ICT as a means to harness the wealth of information available on the information highway.”

And what would serve this best? I bet you people know.

Parliamentary Comedy: Of Kepala Pusing and Canned Food!

via theStar:

MANY MPs must have found last week’s Parliament sitting to be a little duller than usual as all the excitement was centred in Machap. Some MPs, however, decided to brighten up the mood by cracking jokes and passing witty remarks. To some backbenchers, nothing could be better than picking on the opposition MPs, who also played along.

Nazri tried to tell Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang that there were no vicious intentions when Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein raised the Malay keris at the Umno general assembly last year. He said Kit Siang should not feel threatened by the keris if his conscience was clear.

“Just like when I went to Chinese events in my constituency, I was greeted with Chinese kung fu demonstrations and the kun tao.

Nazri, too, was laughing but little did he know that kun tao means “canned food” in the Cantonese dialect.

Almost always never fails to crack me up…sighz…these guys always manage to find some crap to talk about while wasting precious parliamentary time to discuss other more urgent issues.

Highway Robbery!

Tony wrote:

Work the maths yourself.

The construction cost for the for the 5 highways of which the toll rates are being revised in January 2007, is estimated at RM4.13 billion. According to our Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Samy Vellu, the government has already paid RM2.275 billion in compensation for ’suppressing’ the toll rates to date.

In addition, despite the hefty toll hikes expected in January which has been announced, the honourable Minister has also, out of compassion for the rakyat, agreed to fork out an additional RM2.589 billion in compensation to the concessionaires over the next 3 to 5 years.

So, how much is the promised compensation in total? A whopping RM4.86 billion! That’s RM734 million or almost 18% more than the actual cost of constructing the highway!

Sign the petition if you think the hikes are unfair!

Should a husband feed his wife or the other way round?

via theStar:

SHOULD a husband feed his wife or the other way round?

The question during the winding-up debate by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil sent the House into stitches.

Earlier, Ismail Noh (PAS Pasir Mas) said home-cooked food would taste better if a wife fed her husband. He said women should therefore be allowed shorter working hours so she could go home earlier to cook for her husband and family.

Datuk Mohd Alwi Che Ahmad (BN Ketereh) then asked if it would be better for women to work full time so she could buy food from outside to feed their husband or should women stay at home to cook but let their husbands feed themselves.

Shahrizat however said both should feed each other as it would not be fair for the wife if she had to feed her husband all the time.

Just when I thought there’s gonna be a lack of interesting posts today, here comes some high quality discussion in the parliament.

I still think makan suap’s the best way to feed yourself…lol
