Don’t Feel Flattered if Ppl Calls You A Tai Chi Master!!!

Ichi the Killer wrote:

In Malaysia, however (not sure about other Asian countries as well), apart from the above we have an alternative meaning for Tai Chi. If someone says you are a classic Tai Chi Master, do not feel flattered and thank the fella, especially if it’s your Boss or colleague saying it to you. Why?

Because it means that you are very clever at pushing aside jobs and responsibilities and basically avoiding being accountable for anything at all, even if that something falls directly under your area of responsibility or supervision. A true alternative Tai Chi Master is able to avoid and push aside all manner of dirt and recriminations thrown at him/her and make it stick onto others, so that he/she comes out smelling like roses.

lol…

Asia’s top brains going to Europe, America

via DailyIndia:

Singapore, Nov 20 (DPA) Rigid labour policies in many Asian countries threaten to drive away the region’s top brains to Europe and the US, a Standard Chartered Bank report warned Monday.

Socio-political barriers and cultural attitudes restrict the free flow of professionals around the region, the research team said.

Such expatriates typically come from less developed countries such as India, China, Indonesia and the Philippines, he said, adding that the majority are in low-skilled jobs such as maids and factory workers.

Only 10 percent of migrants in Hong Kong from overseas are professionals. In Malaysia, “a mere 1.9 percent” are in this category, the report said.

yeah, our 60k graduates are still unemployed…

The Next China?

via Gizmodo:

the Middle Kingdom’s days as the world’s chief producer of affordable ladies’ undergarments are numbered. Lingerie companies are already finding it cheaper to deal with factories in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and other nations with a dearth of modern skyscrapers.

Her learned observation got me thinking: will China’s reign atop the low-end electronics heap soon end as well? After all, the natural cycle in gadget production has been for a country to start out as a purveyor of discount knock-offs, then gradually reinvent itself as a premium supplier. We’re all probably too young to remember this, but “Made in Tokyo” was a sign of inferior quality circa 1950. And weren’t LG and Samsung considered cheaper alternatives to Japanese goods just a generation (or less) ago?

My bet’s on Vietnam =)

Diabetic Asian children reached “Epidemic Levels”!

via IPS:

BANGKOK, Nov 13 (IPS) - Ahead of World Diabetes Day, marked on Nov. 14, a leading British medical journal has issued a grim warning to Asian countries. Type-2 diabetes among the region’s children has reached ‘’epidemic levels,” says a paper published in ‘The Lancet.’

”The onset of type-2 diabetes in younger age-groups is likely to result in major economic burdens for countries in Asia due to premature ill health and death,” it says. ”People in Asia tend to develop diabetes with a lesser degree of obesity at younger age, suffer longer with complications of diabetes, and die sooner than people in other regions.”
