Night Goggles to Nab Pirates

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysian cinemas have found a powerful new weapon in their fight against movie pirates — military-style night-vision goggles.

After showing people to their seats, trained ushers are strapping on the goggles and scanning darkened cinemas around the country to spot anyone trying to make illegal copies of movies with hand-held video recorders or mobile phones.

Do we have to resort to using high-end equipment to catch pirates red-handed?

Okay so yesterday i watched Ryan Star perform at Zouk. That guy is pretty darn intense, and to be honest i thought his music was not given the justice it deserved, because:

e) The Dreaded Thing. Malaysian Whatever Syndrome. Don’t you buggers give a shit about poor REAL artistes. This is not the K-Town Klan, or Too Phat, or Saer Ze, or some blubbering Malaysian act. (actually Saer isn’t half bad, if you love and accept Kylie).

So YEAH. THE SOUND SYSTEM FAILED MIDSONG.
And NOT just any song, my loves, not just any song.
It was ‘the Back of your Car’. A Killer, Kick Ass song that kept him IN the Rockstar Competition in the first place.

No, really. Poor Mr Star. I feel his pain.

He’s really positive about the whole thing though =)

Shin-chan Negative Influence for Malaysian Kids!

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) — Puteri Umno wants programmes aired by the broadcast media, like entertainment programmes, TV advertisements and cartoons, which carry negative influence to be monitored and censored.

It delegate, Siti Azizah Omar, said that there were now several programmes including the cartoon, “Sinchan”, which influenced children to use foul language just like the characters in the programmes.

The local television stations could replace imported cartoons with local publications, like Lat’s cartoons, the Kampung Boy and Putih, which were more suited to the local culture, she said when seconding the motion on religion and social issues at the Umno general assembly here Friday.

FYI, some westerners have called Shin-chan the “Bart Simpson of Japan”.
FYI (2), article also points out the open criticism of a certain singer/actress married to a minister.

Malaysia’s Political Elite No Match for Siti!

via IHT:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Malaysia’s political elite proved no match for a pop sweetheart.

Siti Nurhaliza, Malaysia’s top female singer, stole the show at the United Malays National Organization ruling party’s annual congress Thursday, making a special appearance to help promote the government’s economic development programs. Hundreds of star-struck people stopped watching the assembly debate and flooded a separate hall, where Siti chatted with fans and belted out an impromptu, a cappella performance of one of her famous ballads.

Civil servant Kamariah Daud said the government should use Siti and other popular figures to make the public more attentive to topics such as politics and the economy. “When politicians open their mouth, not everybody listens. When Siti speaks, everybody climbs over each other to hear her,” Kamariah said.
