Of course, the show got kicked off with the showing of the 8-minute footage of the Lingamtape. Some called V.K Lingam as Shockalingam - a nod to a guy killed in Anniyan which everyone was laughing. Sure, the real laughing point is indeed “correct…correct…correct!”

But when I went through the whole thing, I came to realize that I can’t seem to trust the judiciary anymore. If I am to challenge a big government over compensation of damages, I would immediately end up one the losing side because of the intimidation and the partisan decision of judges. Some are pressured by the mob to go with them or face punishment. Which reminds me of what Tony told me of a Shearn Delamore lawyer representing MAS did in the lawsuit against Audra.

NAB, All-Blogs, PABS. Are you confused now? I am definitely, and I’m not really in the mood to read thru’ all these verbose so-po blogs (no offense =P) to find out what it really is. So, here’s a table which hopefully can clear up everything.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) — The blogsite operator who reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi fainted at a function in Lumut, Perak, Sunday could face action including being charged under the Sedition Act if the article contained elements of slander.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the ministry was studying the report before deciding on the type of action to be taken against the blogger.

“I have not read the report in the blogsite but if there are elements of slander, action can be taken under the Penal Code. This comes under the Internal Security Ministry,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby here today.

He was commenting on a report in a blogsite that Abdullah fainted at the function in Lumut. The Prime Minister has since denied the report and regretted its inaccuracy.

btw, from the wording of this Bernama report, is it the blogger or blogsite operator that gets charged? If it’s the latter, isn’t that Blogger.com i.e. Google? That would be interesting.

Malaysian media—traditionally constrained by significant legal restrictions and various forms of intimidation—was further restricted in 2006 as a by-product of government attempts to suppress public discussion of divisive and potentially explosive issues. The constitution provides each citizen with “the right to freedom of speech and expression,” but allows for limitations on this right. The government imposes these limitations in practice, ostensibly to protect national security and public order. The 1984 Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) requires all publishers and printing firms to obtain an annual operations permit, and gives the prime minister—as the minister of internal security—the authority to revoke licenses at any time without judicial review. The PPPA has been used by authorities to shut down or otherwise circumscribe the distribution of pro-opposition media outlets and was invoked in early 2006 to indefinitely suspend the Sarawak Tribune and temporarily suspend the Guang Ming Daily for reproducing the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
