The Semi-Value Story

I’ve been living Ipoh for all my youth - 23 years already and still counting. I still know the tales of the Toupee man from Sungai Siput - Samy Vellu. Incidentally, when I read a bit of Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange, I came to understand that the story was based on the his own experience of his wife being a rape victim in Sungai Siput as well! Coincidence.

The newspaper man who would always come to our house to collect the monthly bill always shows his disdain of this guy. Not on the job thing but the fact that he remains the only big race leader to yet hand over the leadership to the younger generation. People have praised Ling Liong Sik, Lim Keng Yaik and even Mahathir for handing the mantle of leadership over to the younger leaders.

But not him.

My 85-year old man too had a disdain of him. Every moment when he sees Samy in the papers he kept saying to me…”That bloody bastard!” That phrase keeps ringing in my head whenever I see a paper article even from the mainstream media that features our guy

Sailing School For Malaysia

I am utterly upset with Pak Lahs’ decision to build a sailing school. In his recent comment, he told The Star newspaper,

the proposed school would be of international standard and would churn out professional sailors

Halo boss, there’s a lot of things you can do for Terengganu with that money. You probably think that this is something like F1. And by building a sailing school, you think you can help the locals. Well you’re wrong! You’ll only introduce inflations!

Collapse of Law and Order - Forum Report

Of course, the show got kicked off with the showing of the 8-minute footage of the Lingamtape. Some called V.K Lingam as Shockalingam - a nod to a guy killed in Anniyan which everyone was laughing. Sure, the real laughing point is indeed “correct…correct…correct!”

But when I went through the whole thing, I came to realize that I can’t seem to trust the judiciary anymore. If I am to challenge a big government over compensation of damages, I would immediately end up one the losing side because of the intimidation and the partisan decision of judges. Some are pressured by the mob to go with them or face punishment. Which reminds me of what Tony told me of a Shearn Delamore lawyer representing MAS did in the lawsuit against Audra.

8 Newcomers on Malaysia’s Rich List!

via Forbes:

Eight newcomers have joined the rich list - most due to recent offerings or dramatic gains in public holdings - with Mahathir’s son Mokhzani Mahathir, 46, ranked 28 with net worth of $220 million after publicly listing his energy company Kencana last December.

The petroleum engineer is also the sole distributor of Porsche in Malaysia, and personally owns four of them, Forbes said. An amateur race car driver, he chairs the country’s Formula One race track.

The richest of the eight newcomers is Singapore resident Ong Beng Seng, worth $580 million at No. 12. Ong - Malaysian citizen - recently persuaded Formula One’s Bernie Ecclestone to hold a Grand Prix race in Singapore at night, a world first if it happens.

Singapore Does Everything Better

John wrote:

Malaysians have an annoying inferiority complex when it comes to Singapore. Most Malaysians fall into two fallacious categories; they either believe that we should emulate Singapore as much as possible, or that we should avoid emulating it to the greatest extent.

This petty childishness of course has many root causes. But one cause, sad to say, seems to be that Singapore does everything better.

Of course, the “patriotic” Malaysians are up in arms now. “What?!” they indignantly ask. “How dare he say that Singapore does everything better than we do!”

But it’s an unfortunate fact of life. The Singaporeans outdo Malaysians in virtually every arena. No matter where you look, Singapore is, in everyday parlance, kicking Malaysia’s ass.

Probably more for the non-bumis. Must-read.
