TO THE uninitiated, the Umno general assembly invokes images of political leaders, fists clenched, arms raised, adorned in traditional attire, drumming up support for their respective views, inciting excitement from a partisan crowd. Inside the hall, fervent delegates cause temperatures to rise and tempers to flare. But the wayang kulit is only confined to the meeting rooms.
Row upon row of booths display the usual bric-a-brac, jewellery, clothes, perfume, varieties of nuts and books on Umno and its leaders past and present. There is even an enterprising chap dealing in ikan terubuk masin from Sarawak.
