Making Tea, Spin Tops, Paint “Batik” and Toss “Batu Seremban” in Space!

via theStar:

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s first astronaut will do what no one in space has done before: play traditional Malay children’s games without gravity.

The astronaut - yet to be selected - will play “batu seremban,” or “five stones” and spin traditional Malay tops in space, Agriculture Ministry parliamentary secretary Rohani Abdul Karim told parliament on Wednesday.

Rohani, who was replying on behalf of the Science, Technology and Innovations Ministry, said the astronaut would also do batik painting and making teh tarik.

Experiments to prove that activities that depend on gravity can be done in zero gravity?

Video above shows how you can toss a “water bubble” and catch it with a plastic bag in space (zero-g). Wouldn’t replacing hot tea with water cause danger to other astronauts?

Now trying to “tarik” the tea would be tough in space as well, and here’s a video illustrating how waves or bubbles of air behave within the water balloon:

God knows why the Malaysian government wants to make teh tarik (tea) in space: Would it taste better since it can be done without the confines of a cup or is it an attempt to enter the book of records as the world’s most expensive tea? The Malaysian government should consider bringing back some of the tea that was made back to Earth and auction it to the highest bidder. =P
