Differences between Malay Language and Indonesian Language

After collecting so many references in different sites, I am proudly presents the differences between Indonesian and Malay Language. For those who still don’t know or confuse about the difference, this might be useful. Special thanks for Wikipedia as the main source of this “little research” and also to Fairy Mahdzan for all the info about Malay and Indonesia.

Comparison and Contrast

- Spelling and Pronounciation

Malay native speaker mostly tends doing the vowel reduction of /a/ to /e/, the vowel reduction of /u/ to /o/ and the /r/ deletion. Actually the spelling and pronounciation of Indonesian depends on the region and the race of the speaker. For instances, Jakarta people tends to use the vowel reduction of /a/ to /e^/ (/e^/ is like e in word “enumeration” whereas /e/ is like e in word “different”).
